Dear Diary

Today I could begin a diary.
A long lost friend and forgotten companion,
To promise to keep all my thoughts forever.
A pledge, only I know too well will be broken -
Before the coming of the dawn.

And yet the desire is there,
All too present
Perhaps a desperate attempt
To sort out my thoughts.
And once done,
What will happen?

I’ll merely forget once again.
Exile my diary once more,
To retrieve it, like prayer
When need requires it,
When life is unkind
And I need to unburden myself!

But although my desire to resurrect the diary is strong,
I know it would be a useless endeavour
A quick solution to a present problem
To be discarded when life turns the corner,
And becomes content once more!
