EuropeanIrish.com wins Market Entry Success Award, Presented by Trade Minister Micheál Martin
Press Release Co. Cork, Ireland — 17 Apr. 2008 —

EuropeanIrish.com has been announced as the winner of the Genesis Enterprise Program “Market Entry Success” Award for 2008.
Siasy Collins (full-name Proinsias), Editor, Publisher and Managing Director of EuropeanIrish.com has been reporting on the Irish scene in Europe for the past 5 years, and on the GAA in mainland Europe for he past 12 years. EuropeanIrish.com connects Irish people living in and heading to Continental Europe, with Irish Services, resources and activities available locally, including local Irish entertainment and sport.

Siasy Collins was thrilled with the award, “as it acknowledges the progress taken by Europeanirish.com over the past 12 months and the 4 years before that. Last year Emigration from Ireland was at its highest level in 16 years. More Irish people now head to Continental Europe, than to the UK and America, combined. So it is vital to have an active online resource which connects together all the Irish resources and activities on the Continent, as a support for Irish people living in and heading there”

On Monday evening, Irish Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin presenting the awards along with the event sponsors, AIB and Ernst & Young, at the Genesis Enterprise Programme (GEP) Showcase & Awards, at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), remarked that GEP is “a prime example of the successful synthesis of the resources of the Development Agencies and Educational Institutions in stimulating entrepreneurship and innovation.”

EuropeanIrish.com has been one of 18 start up businesses participating on the Genesis Enterprise Programme (www.gep.ie) for the past 12 months, which is an incubation programme for entrepreneurs to speed phases of development of the business.
Each year the participating businesses are presented to the public in a showcase exhibition with the achievements of particular businesses in reaching commercial milestones being recognised in an Awards ceremony. Composed of seasoned professionals and experienced entrepreneurs, the Adjudication Panel for the Awards was Michael Hayes, AIB; Michael Cotter, Ernst & Young; Colin Walsh, Thomas Crosbie Holdings; Charles Garvey, Nitrosell; and Jerry Kennelly.

Colin Walsh, group marketing manager with Thomas Crosbie Holdings, who are the award media sponsors said “Entrepreneurship can be a lonely calling. There are many long hours of trying to get people to believe in you, and your vision so when an opportunity comes along to recognise the achievements of these entrepreneurs it must be taken. I hope we will be recognising the achievements of this year’s participants for many years to come.”

EuropeanIrish.com was recently appointed the Official Media Partner of the European GAA County Board, which represents 30 clubs in 14 countries. It has also recently re-launched its website, with already 550 new members joined in the past few weeks. It has had 1 million visitors in the past 12 months, visiting more than 7 million webpages, and this week, celebrates its 5th birthday.
